“Let’s come to reality, enough of dreaming” is the first line, which we’ll use after watching the movie. Very few movies, drags you so close to it, through their, cinematography, screenplay or even actors; that you will realize, it was just a movie after it ends. Inception has one among them which takes you very close with it, with its story itself.
Dreams, how could a person imagine or analyze so much about it, about an imagination and create a new imaginary things with it. That is what director, Christopher Nolan has did. He takes you into the screenplay, and makes you a part of that dream and leaves you dreaming rest of the movie.
There are some basic pre requisites to watch and in fact to enjoy the movie. Mathematics, Physics, basically you should know or should have experienced dreaming. Many of us say, I never dream. It’s our perception. Everyone would surely have dreams, may be they forget about it as soon as they wake up.
If you don't have the above then you might finish it by saying "never been so confused about some freaking dreams in ma life!!!! heights of confusion!!!! INCEPTION--- great movie!!! great thoughts!!! great direction!!! not to forget----- GREATEST confusions of all time!! ......" this was quoted by one of the friends.
In this movie, you are shown how a dream can be used as a powerful tool to change another person’s ideas. The screenplay is constructed nicely and it sometimes might seem to be a roller coaster ride. Yeah, it kicks off like a rocket and slows down, while the whole concept is being explained, again moves faster, then slows down, sometimes confusing, sometimes very plain. However if one concentrates on the slower part of the movie, then the other part will be more enjoyable.
Computer Graphics, camera techniques, settings, the mazes, architectures, actions, and a bit of single line comedies, you name it, it is there in the movie and of course with a meaningful fiction as well.
Compare the reality and the scenes in the dream; you will see they are physically sequential. Better experience it than with my words.
Hans Zimmer’s background score rocks, appropriate sound mixtures in each frame. I haven’t watched Wally Pfister’s cinematographer earlier so cannot comment or compare his work with his earlier works.
Also I haven’t watched Batman Begins or the Dark Knight so can’t express more about director Christopher Nolan. However after watching this, I will try to check out his earlier works.
Leonardo DiCaprio, is still many girl’s dream guy even in action movies. He has maintained his charm and fitness all over the movie. He covers almost 50% of the screen while other actors Ellen Page, Joseph Gordon, Tom Hardy the rest equally. Marion Cottilard shows up for few scenes but carries a heavy role to perform. Dileep Rao is getting some stronger characters in each movie; soon we might expect him to come up stronger.
What I suggest is, watch each and every frame of the movie, concentrate on the basics, get into the maze, roll yourself into it, get out of it and experience the DREAM.

Madrasapattinam
Madrasapattinam :-
Period films are very less nowadays, and they are usually taken, when you know you have thin story line. With a weak story or may be with a known story, directors usually try to make the audience feel something different. Vijay has understood this very well and has taken us to the past and gave us a real experience of Madrasapattinam.
He captures us even with his title card, and never allows you out of the seat till the edge. Great work Vijay. The Story revolves around a washer man, in 1940s and his love with an English lady. First few minutes of the movie made me think it would, be another Titanic, or Benjamin button where the Lady expresses her past love life. However here it’s her journey to Madrasapattinam, which by then had become Chennai.
Art director Selvakumar had done a splendid job, with huge sets in the whole movie. However he could have done a bit more with colors, Fresh clean roads, Complete white walls, bright colors in some areas of the movie, doesn’t seem to give you the complete past effect. Also he could have done some more homework on the history. He had used broad gauge tracks in those times, with kiwi wall posters etc. I doubt if they were there in those times.
G V Prakash makes the movie pleasant while watching and some songs are really good. The background music stays with you for at least an hour after the movie.
Art director is Nirav Shah, his camera work is okay. But in some places he could have avoided the backgrounds. If you watch very keenly, you might find, that he has forgot to remove the recent age objects in the background. Check it out.
Editing and Screenplay has to go hand in hand for any movie to get successful. It has been made perfect combination in this movie. Switching from past to present and present past makes the difference here. Feel it!!!!!! Again good work by Anthony Gonsalves and Vijay.
Arya, has done a nice work in the movie. He has not only shown his arms and abs, but has shown his acting skills as well. I liked his work after Pattiyal, rest were either over or under for the character. His language should be improved a bit, he seem to use the same accent in almost all the movies. Make a note of it bro…
Miss Teen world Amy Jackson, gives you tons of happiness and refreshment as soon as you see her smile. Even a Doberman would fall in love with her, why not this washerman. She is just a kid now and will surely have a long tale to tell when she gets old. Make sure not to watch her official site.

Raavan - Hindi
Raavan – Hindi:-
The story of the movie is as it is as it was predicted. The movie shows up the goodness in Raavan. There were several emails regarding the climax of the movie, and almost all of them were wrong. Or maybe because these emails, Mani had to change some things in the climax. I sometimes in the movie felt, Mani is trying to portrait ten different faces of Raavan using several situations, but I was wrong, he might have tried, but not in depth.
The Screenplay also didn’t seem to be much interesting because each of the viewers is already expecting the next scene. However the Screens, the frames of the movie are very extraordinary, and for this particular reason, you HAVE to watch the movie in big screens.
Santhosh Sivan has broken his all previous records, with this movie. In almost all the scenes of the movie, it is raining, and you could feel the rain when you watch the movie. Some scenes can be easily differentiated as Computer Graphics, but the rest is really good. I need to watch Raavan in Tamil to appreciate Santhosh more, because if he has shot the scenes in similar areas, with similar lights and same kind of atmosphere, then it’s HATs OFF Santhosh. Not only the outdoors, even the indoor scenes rock, especially the scene where Vikram burns the news paper in which Aish’s and Abhi’s photo is published.
Mesmerizing Music, By ARR all over the movie. We can never express the feel which he has given with words. So I am leaving the rest or you to watch and experience. Editing of the movie is not very special and there are some misses here and there. Yes the movie doesn’t give you a complete feel in a single stream. It seems it has been cut in so many places, which makes the movie little scene by scene drama.
Abhishek could have done better in his voice modulation, body language etc. But still he gets lots of applaud from the viewers. Most of them should go to the Makeup team, and the art directors. But still many of us see the actor in front and forget the artists behind showing him so beautiful, in this case so aggressive in the movie.
They could have kept Aish’s hair shorter, she doesn’t look pretty natural in this hairstyle, or did Mani want to see her as a real Sita? God Knows, but she has also failed equally in this movie, and could have done lot better for that role. In most of the scenes she looks bit tired, is it because of walking over such a terrain, completely drenched?
Vikram on the other hand, has performed nicely. He has infact lost some weight when compared to Bheema. He looks perfectly in this movie, but the chemistry with Aishwarya doesn’t look perfect. Others like Govinda(the movie could have worked even without him but still we need one person as Hanuman) , Priyamani, Nikhil Dwivedi have performed okay in their character. But taking the lead in sub actor role is Ravi Kissen, he has given his best shots, with acting, language, looks etc.
Now the man behind all the above, Maniratnam, I should say has failed in his tests. It is never like his movie. He has depended on casts this time, which he never does. He makes the character out of each actor and in this movie, he has not concentrated much on that.
His technical ability can never be matched, and he still has stood the best with his great team, but atleast it is again a weak story. Atleast the people who sent me the email, had sent me better climax than this. He has invested so much of ability, techniques, money, man power and at the end the result is what everyone expected.
However at the end, you come out with a great disappointment. Raavan could have been better if he had stayed BAD.

Kites - 2010
Kites:-
Any movie, to get a great success, must be promoted well and that too in the correct direction. And one of the best examples of course in the wrong side, was Kites. Whenever I saw the promos of Kites, it actually made me feel that it is an action mixed love story. But it was totally different.
A perfect love story (again with an obvious sad ending) was beautifully shown. The screen play was really strong enough to hold the viewers till the end, however climax was painful. It could have been lot better if they had some changes in the climax. It was a complete world class movie till the end, but Anurag Basu made it a pukka bollywood movie with his ending. No matter how many international viewers appreciated it, it still proved to be a perfect Indian Cinema.
Anurag Basu, with a strong background from Murder, Life in a Metro, Gangster etc., had created a strong expectation in Kites and failed to achieve that. However there are some areas where he needs to appreciated like the team which he took up for this project. He has started the movie with a lot of twists and turns and wasn’t able to keep the momentum after the first half.
Hats off to Rajesh Roshan, for his excellent work in the background with his music. May be he has some soft corner for Hrithik, for whom he has continuously given a complete different music track. Its well known that all the songs were beautiful, but the background scores are really 200% better than songs, his attempt to have a song during a chase sequence receives a lot of applauds inside the cinema hall. Choreography is excellent and of course with cast like Barbara and Hrithik, everything is possible.
Cinematographer, Ayanaka Bose has to be appreciated for each and every frame. He was a junior of Rajiv Menon and even his master wouldn’t have done an excellent job like this. When especially, Hrithik escapes from the Railway station and jumps over a running train; he settles down at the edge of the coach, there the camera is set in a perfect position to cover the complete landscape, the character, and also the coach, don’t miss it. Through his camera you don’t usually watch a movie, you experience it.
In a movie, which was promoted to be a romantic/action one, the stunt directors would have had a really tough job. I heard they have completely damaged more than 100 vehicles, including SUVs in this movie to get each shot a perfect one. Of course Rakesh Roshan had so much money to invest and in fact he hadn’t lost even a penny.
Coming to the cast, Hrithik is at his BEST. One will forget Lakshya, Koi Mil Gaya or Krishhhh when they watch Hrithik in this. While crying, romancing, jumping from trains to trains, and everywhere, you cannot forget his face even after the movie is over. He has again proved that he is the only hero how can create magic with his dance moves. The first Fire theme music is simply amazing.
Barbara Mori, what a lady she is. She is absolutely amazing and who in the world would ever say that she is a mother of a 12 your old kid. In fact there is no one else other than Hrithik and Barbara in the whole movie. Every time she licks her own lips, you dead and reborn. Not only has she looked amazing; her performance is also really appreciable. Both Hrithik and Barbara have a great Chemistry and their pair had worked out nicely.
Kangana has a heavy role, even if she had to play for a short time. Her dance along with Hrithik in Fire is truly great (I doubt if she had done it or used a dup for it)
Anyways, you can never leave behind the Art director and costume designers. They have matched the scenes with the background to make this movie a great visual treat.

The Karathe Kid 2010
The name of the movie, promos, trailers, pictures of the movie all makes the story a much predictable one. But director Harald Zwart, still keeps the enthusiasm in each viewer with his beautiful screenplay. It never looked like a remake version of the 1984 movie, however the location here is from Detroit to Beijing.
An American kid and his mother move to china for living, and he is bullied by his Chinese school mates. How he faces them and how he overcomes these fights along with the nice essence of ethics of kung-fu leads the movie nicely.
Jackie Chan in a completely different role has proved that he is just not an action hero. He coaches the kid to face a free style kung fu competition and the different techniques of coaching keeps the movie going. You never seemed to get bored in the complete 120 minutes.
Music by Atli orvarsson, adds more effects to the movie. It is very remarkable and better than his older ones, like Babylon and Vantage Point.
The Art director of the movie has to be appreciated for his work. That too in the scenes of having a broken car in the living room shows how real it is. He has given the viewers a complete Chinese experience.
The beautiful scenes captured over the busy Chinese streets and the emptied china wall gets the salute from the viewers.
Coming back to Jackie chan, he doesn’t look much older as he should be, he could still be a hero in the upcoming movies, than being a coach. He still a master of his own world. His fans might not like to see him as a simple coach, they still want him to show more action. However in this movie he is a better coach than The Forbidden Kingdom.
Jaden Smith s/o Will smith reminds me an old tamil saying “Thaai ettadi paindhal…kutty padhiradi paayum” i.e., if mother (father in this case) jumps for 8 feet her kid can jump for 16 feets. He has given his best shot in acting, emotions and as a comedian. He might once again get an award for this role.
Overall The Karathe Kid is a good entertainer and after many days a Hollywood movie is making money in Bangalore.

Rajneethi
RAJNEETHI:-
The story of the movie is not much different from Mahabharata (and ofcourse with a Geethacharan). The director seems to have thought the greatest Rajneethi in the world is still Mahabharata. It is just a competition to catch hold of the ministry. The fight between the brothers and their strategy which each one makes to achieve the Power.
The characters of the movie can be matched with the characters of Mahabharata, Ajay Devgan -> Karnan, Manoj Bajpaee -> Dhuriyodhan, Nana Patekar -> Krishna, Ranbir Kapoor and Arjun Rampal -> Pandavas…..etc.
The first half of the movie, seems to be bit interesting because you don’t realize that it is the same as the greatest EPIC. The screenplay is handled well in the starting; however it became very predictable in the second half.
Background music doesn’t make you thrill all the time, however the efforts by the music director, in fact directors can be seen clearly. Songs were actually for namesake, and most of them were scissored. However Mora piya and ishq barse murmurs the lines again and again.
It cannot be called as a very talented work by either editors or the art directors. It clearly is visible that most of the sets were re used. And Cinematographers had no much scope other than rotating their cameras from left to right.
As said earlier, you can visualize each character based on the story which everyone knew already, however when you compare the Promos and the movie there is a huge difference. Katrina Kaif, Ajay Devgan and Nasrudeen Shah don’t have much role to play.
Ranbir Kapoor with his serious role this time has done the job perfectly and we are able to see some maturity in Arjun Rampal’s acting after a long time. Cheers to Director. Someone could have dubbed for Katrina Kaif because her language was pathetic. Her body language in the public meeting is again a worst experiment; there is no Josh in her. Manoj bajpee has lived the character in the movie.
Coming to the direction part; hats off to Prakash Jha and his team for handling such a huge crowd. He has tried his maximum to make the story different from Mahabharata, by keeping small love story in the middle, disappointment within the lovers, however he has failed miserably. If you get into the hall expecting something like, Mrityudhand, Gangajaal or Apaharan, you will surely be disappointed. He can surely be appreciated for making Arjun rampal appear better in the screen.
Overall you come out with a disappointment from the cinemas, it doesn’t seem to be like the one which is been shown in the posters. But it is worth watching once and you would feel better if you watch it for free

The story of the movie is not much different from Mahabharata (and ofcourse with a Geethacharan). The director seems to have thought the greatest Rajneethi in the world is still Mahabharata. It is just a competition to catch hold of the ministry. The fight between the brothers and their strategy which each one makes to achieve the Power.
The characters of the movie can be matched with the characters of Mahabharata, Ajay Devgan -> Karnan, Manoj Bajpaee -> Dhuriyodhan, Nana Patekar -> Krishna, Ranbir Kapoor and Arjun Rampal -> Pandavas…..etc.
The first half of the movie, seems to be bit interesting because you don’t realize that it is the same as the greatest EPIC. The screenplay is handled well in the starting; however it became very predictable in the second half.
Background music doesn’t make you thrill all the time, however the efforts by the music director, in fact directors can be seen clearly. Songs were actually for namesake, and most of them were scissored. However Mora piya and ishq barse murmurs the lines again and again.
It cannot be called as a very talented work by either editors or the art directors. It clearly is visible that most of the sets were re used. And Cinematographers had no much scope other than rotating their cameras from left to right.
As said earlier, you can visualize each character based on the story which everyone knew already, however when you compare the Promos and the movie there is a huge difference. Katrina Kaif, Ajay Devgan and Nasrudeen Shah don’t have much role to play.
Ranbir Kapoor with his serious role this time has done the job perfectly and we are able to see some maturity in Arjun Rampal’s acting after a long time. Cheers to Director.
